Patients in Naples and Bonita Springs, FL

Elbow arthroscopy is a surgical approach used in various elbow surgeries. In Greek, it means “to look within the joint.” As opposed to a traditional surgery, arthroscopy is less invasive and a more complex method. Arthroscopy can also be used to diagnose elbow injuries or complications.

During an arthroscopy procedure, Dr. Goldberg creates small incisions for a very small camera, or fiber optic device into the arm surgical area. This camera allows the injury and procedure to be viewable on a screen. Tiny instruments or tools are then inserted into incisions to examine the area around the elbow.

In addition to treating elbow conditions, elbow arthroscopy can be used to diagnose symptoms. The camera can help identify problems not visible at the arm’s surface more precisely than an MRI.

Treatable Injuries

Elbow arthroscopy can correct a variety of injuries. Arthroscopy can be used for the following conditions:

  • Tennis elbow
  • Cartilage removal
  • Arthritis in the arm
  • Release of scar tissue

If you believe you suffer from any of these conditions, or experience painful symptoms in your elbow, be sure to ask Dr. Goldberg about an arthroscopic procedure. He will determine if your condition could benefit from this less invasive approach.

Because it uses smaller incisions and is less invasive than traditional methods, an arthroscopy lessens surgical recovery time. Patients should expect discomfort after surgery, and depending on the extent, it may take several weeks for pain to subside. For certain conditions, arthroscopy allows diagnosis and treatment in the same appointment, which limits recovery time even further. Arthroscopic patients can experience the same results as an open surgery, but with fewer associated risks.

After surgery, Dr. Goldberg will determine a rehabilitation program to specifically help you regain motion and strength. Returning to activities, such as driving and work, will be determined on the type of surgery and the amount of rehabilitation required.  Dr. Goldberg serves patients near the Naples and Bonita Springs areas for their arthroscopic procedure.
